Nowadays, there are more and more villas and houses with pools. In the past, pools were only found in swimming pools or sports arenas, but now they can be found in many places. Swimming pools are a common form of exercise that is suitable for all age groups. However, pools are not suitable for year-round use, so it is important to protect them when they are not in use. Pool covers are necessary for pool protection. They not only protect the pool itself but also safeguard people and animals.

How to choose a pool cover?

Pool protection requires the use of pool covers, and there are generally two options: solid covers or

covers. Both types of pool covers have their advantages and benefits, and both are considered the safest options for pool covering. Let's now introduce the two types of pool covers: solid pool covers and mesh pool covers. Each of them has its own advantages and disadvantages, and the selection should be based on practical usage.

Solid pool covers:

Advantages:

Solid pool covers prevent sunlight, water, and debris from passing through. This helps to prevent algae growth in the pool. By keeping algae and dirty water out of your pool, you will require less maintenance when it comes time to open the pool, saving you headaches.

They are typically made of vinyl or waterproof fabric material and can be easily cut to fit the specific shape of the swimming pool.

This type of cover is attached to the pool deck using anchors and springs, allowing it to support the weight of water, snow, or debris that may accumulate on the cover.

When not in use, it can be easily folded and stored.

Disadvantages:

Since solid pool covers do not allow for drainage, you will need to use a pump or drainage pipe to remove water and debris that accumulates on the cover. It's important to prevent large puddles from forming on the solid cover to avoid the risk of drowning.

Although the cover can be folded when not in use, it is heavier than a mesh cover, which can make handling a bit more difficult.

Mesh pool covers:

Advantages:

Mesh pool covers are very durable and can withstand significant weight if installed and maintained correctly. This keeps people and animals safe from potential hazards.

Mesh covers are usually reasonably priced and are the most affordable option for pool owners.

With proper maintenance, mesh covers have a lifespan of approximately 15 years, making them not only a safe investment but also the best choice for your wallet.

Mesh covers can be customized to fit the specific shape of your pool.

These covers can be folded and stored during the offseason, just like sturdy safety covers. However, they are often lighter in weight, making them easier to handle.

Rainwater can filter through the mesh, so you don't need to remove excess water from the top of the cover.

This type of cover is also attached to your pool deck using anchors and springs, allowing it to support the weight of snow or debris that may accumulate on the cover. It can block large debris, such as fallen tree branches.

Disadvantages:

If you are still using the pool and want to heat it, sunlight penetrating through this cover may be an advantage, but it can also be a disadvantage when it comes to algae growth. Sunlight can penetrate through the tight mesh weave, causing algae to grow on the pool walls. This will require more work to clean the water when you uncover the pool in the spring.

When pool season arrives, dirty water mixed with smaller debris may be able to seep into your pool, requiring more effort to clean it.

Due to rainwater and melting snow entering your pool, you may need to drain some water if the water level becomes too high.

Summary:

Both mesh pool covers and solid pool covers are excellent choices. They serve the same purpose of effectively protecting the pool. The selection between them depends on cost considerations. If budget is not a concern, choosing a solid pool cover is also a good option. If cost is a factor, then a mesh pool cover is a good choice.
